Flip and get more news on U.S.-born Latina Laurie Hernandez…
Laurie Hernandez hasn’t even arrived to Rio de Janeiro, yet. But she took to social media to announce her excitement.
The Puerto Rican gymnast writes:
“Extremely honored to say I’ll be representing team USA at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. I want to thank God, cause with God nothing is impossible. I definitely want to thank my coach @maggiehaney26 for staying by my side since 2005 and dealing with me every day in the gym haha! As much as a sacrifice I make for this sport, you make as much for me every day and I’m so grateful. S/o to my family and friends for being so supportive of me for the past few years; and all the doctors that have helped me stay in one piece! I can’t wait to take on this new chapter in my life!?”
We are loving Laurie Hernandez. We wish he the best of luck at the 2016 Olymic games in Rio de Janeiro.
Go for the Gold Laurie! Make us all proud!
The 16-year-old Puerto Rican gymnast Hernandez is only the third Latina in history to make the team and the first Boricua. Hernandez, who was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey, wowed audiences during the Olympic Gymnastics Trials thanks to her expressive performances ― she’s been nicknamed “the human emoji” ― and her always on beat floor routine.
