Get the details on Romeo Santos on the flip…
Billboard reports that Romeo Santos has teamed up with a Universal Music Publishing Group signing a worldwide publishing deal that will make him one of the largest Latin entertainers.
Snagging Santos is a huge coup for UMPG and a major feather in the cap of Alexandra Lioutikoff, who came in to lead the company’s Latin division earlier this year.
Santos’ compositions were long administered by indie Mayimba Music, who did an outstanding job of taking his work to the world. This, however, will be Santos’ first publishing deal with a major. UMPG will now represent all his solos works, including Formula Vol.1 and Formula Vol. 2, which topped Latin sales charts in the U.S., The King Stays King: Sold Out at Madison Square Garden, and Santos’ upcoming third solo studio album, slated for release in 2017.
UMPG chairman/CEO Jody Gerson had this to say about the deal:
“I’m extremely proud to welcome Romeo Santos to the Universal Music Publishing family. He’s an inspiring artist and top songwriter who is conquering the world on his own terms. I can’t wait to hear what’s next.”
Lioutikoff also weighed in on Santos talents saying:
“[Santos] is as big as it gets. His massive appeal as an artist crosses all genres and borders, and we look forward to helping further expand opportunities for him in both the Anglo and Latino markets.”
If you recall Santos made early marks in publishing as the lead singer and songwriter for bachata group Aventura, which emerged at the forefront of a new urban/bachata trend in the early 2000s.
